In Oscar Wilde’s "The Nightingale and the Rose", a young student longs for a red rose to win the love of a girl, and a nightingale sacrifices her life to create one for him with her own blood. But when the girl rejects the rose in favor of jewels, the student throws it away and turns back to books, never understanding the depth of the bird’s love. The tale is a poignant reflection on sacrifice, beauty, and the coldness of shallow human desire.
